CLUB RUBY PRESENTS ADHDiaries
June 30th, 2023
Dear Diary,
What a night at The Wine Cellar! Our ADHDiaries release party for our second single Weekend was everything we could have hoped for and then some. It was a whirlwind of music, energy, and shared experiences — all in a space that felt like a safe haven for theatre nerds, D&D enthusiasts, and our fellow neurodivergent pals.
We called it ADHDiaries because every single lead in the lineup has ADHD, and we wanted to lean into that and celebrate our quirks, impulsiveness, and all the beauty that comes with being a bit more wired. The room was buzzing (literally and figuratively) with good vibes and a sense of understanding that only comes from being around folks who get it.
Doors opened at 8:00 PM, and as soon as people started trickling in, you could tell it was going to be a special night. SPECK Comics held down the fort at the merch table, selling zines and welcoming everyone who walked through the door. (P.S. If you didn’t grab a copy of SPECK’s latest issue, you missed out on some top-tier content. The Club Ruby origin story spread? Gold.)
First up was Sophie Gibson at 8:30 PM, performing a solo set that pulled everyone in with a raw and honest energy. Sophie’s voice was mesmerizing, like a bard weaving a tale around a campfire. Her lyrics spoke to the soul, and you could see folks in the audience nodding along, connecting with every word. If we could’ve awarded Inspiration for the performance, Sophie would’ve scored a natural 20, easy.
Then, Kin Kachow came in at 9:00 PM with a jolt of high-octane energy! Picture a tiefling rogue dancing through a battlefield—dangerous, chaotic, and captivating all at once. Kin’s set had everyone on their feet, moving to the beat, and shouting along. Their stage presence was a beautiful blend of punk chaos and heartfelt vulnerability, and by the time they finished, the room was practically vibrating with anticipation.
And then… it was Club Ruby time! We hit the stage at 9:30 PM, ready to launch Weekend into the world. We’ve been through a lot to get to this point, and performing this song felt like casting Mass Healing Word on ourselves and everyone there. The crowd was wild! It was so surreal to see people singing along and dancing, feeding off the energy we were throwing out like we’d all rolled nat-20s on our Charisma checks. The highlight? Watching everyone shout the bridge back at us — that was a true “Wait, is this really happening?” moment.
We also debuted the first episode of our ADHDiaries podcast! It’s still sinking in that people care about what we have to say beyond the music. We got real about our diagnoses and experiences, and it felt like a conversation we’d been waiting to have for years. The response was overwhelming. People shared their own stories, gave us hugs, and let us know how much it meant to hear folks on stage talking openly about ADHD. It was a reminder that what we’re doing goes beyond music — it’s about connection and representation.
The night flew by in a blur of laughter, tunes, and conversations that ranged from favorite critical failures in D&D to the joys of collecting shiny rocks (both literally and metaphorically). By the end, we were exhausted but exhilarated, feeling like we’d made some new party members for life.
So, here’s to another show in the bag, another song out in the world, and one hell of a party. We couldn’t have done it without every single person who showed up, rocked out, and shared this night with us.
Much love,
Club Ruby
